YORTOWN D'HIER
Mais un jour d'août 1781, l'armée anglaise occupa Yorktown afin d'y établir une base navale.

et puis le 6 octobre, ce fut le siège. Les anglais obligèrent tous les navires marchands ou autres à se mettre à l'embouchure de la Chesapeake Bay et les coulèrent. Les armées alliées bombardèrent les positions anglaises trois jours plus tard. Les bombardements durèrent jusqu'au matin du 17 octobre. A la fin on ne dénombrait plus que 70 édifices. Jamais la ville n'a recouvré son ancienne prospérité.
Le Général anglais Charles, Lord Cornwallis et la note qu'il adressa à Washington demandant une rencontre pour discuter des termes de la rédition de l'armée britannique. -les anglais étaient en uniformes rouges, les français en blanc et les américains en bleu-.

Yorktown, in the mid-1700s, was a busy, vital tobacco port, exporting crops from area plantations to England and receiving imports of manufactured goods. people of all types and classes lived in Yorktown -merchants, planters, prosperous yeomen, shopkeepers, indentured servants and slaves.
Yortown's idyllic peace was shattered in the autumn of 1781, when American and French forces defeated British troops in the last major battle of the revolutionary War. British army occupies the city in August, to establish a naval base.
Ninety years after the town's founding in 1607, its streets and homes became part of a battleground. The 1781siege ruined approximately 80% of the town, and the community never regained its former prosperity.
